The Lynchpin

Essays: they aren’t sexy like tricks and methods and are often purposefully overlooked. But they are one of the few resources we have to listen to earned wisdom, especially from those no longer with us.

It’s funny how an art built on centuries of books and vast literature has so little interaction with theory and ideas. Here is a warning about this:

“They won’t listen. Do you know why? Because they have certain fixed notions about the past. Any change would be blasphemy in their eyes, even if it were the truth. They don’t want truth; they want their traditions.” — Isaac Asimov
