Recommended Resources

Resources on the internet that I (Nestor Dee) like, in no particular order…

The Jinx Experience

The best way to read The Jinx! Getting one issue every week, retyped and reedited for readability.

I am absolutely biased by the fact that Julien Losa is one of our authors, but I stand by the previous statement; it is truly great.

The Jerx

Theory and effects for the amateur magician (and mentalist). The Jerx has a lot of fantastic effects and thoughts about performing in social situations. You might not agree with all of it, but it will at the very least get you thinking.

If you are new to it, I recommend starting with the first posts and going in chronological order. While the tone and content have evolved with time, it will let you pick up on ideas as he is developing them.

TrickShop

Probably the best value in the world of mentalism! They mostly republish nice re-editions of older booklets at prices low enough to go below all safety thresholds.

I highly recommend digging into their catalog; they have all you need to build a modern professional act.

The Pro Shop

The Pro Shop is very much into older-style, psychic-flavored mentalism, and it is the only place where you can get some gems like the works of Ron Martin, Cicardi, Ford Kross, or Millard Longman (each of whom has produced some of the finest mentalism out there).

Artisan Tarot

Artisan Tarot carries most of the Tarot, Oracle, and Cartomancy decks I have ever recommended. They are very much the place to go if you need cards for your readings.

Plus, their free courses are a great place to see a wide variety of readers at work.

Ask Alexander

This one is for the historians, the lovers of old obscure publications and magazines. It is a subscription, and the highest levels (which give you access to things like Sid Lorraine’s personal files, a man who apparently kept copies of all the effects he read as well as correspondence with key mentalists of the time) can be pricey, but there is gold there if you like to dig.

Conjuring Archive (/ Credit)

This is a great place to research books, effects, and principles. It is useful when you want to credit an idea, find variants of an effect you are working on, or have a clear idea of the content of a book you are tempted to buy.

The John Riggs Page of Secret Stuff

Buy his books and videos. Do not ask questions. Go.
